Taking place on the 4th of July, the focus of the seminar is targeted: recruitment, retention, and upskilling.

Russell Thomson FCIOB, Chair, comments: “When it comes to the multi-faceted challenges facing the housing sector, one of the major themes which we continue to grapple with sounds simple enough: getting enough of the right people, in the right places, doing the right things – and holding on to them by developing their skills and offering vibrant and attractive career paths. From talented Chief Execs to management and administration, to the tradespeople on the ground, our sector continues to struggle. The reasons for this are well debated – the Brexit skills drain, the perception of housing as being old fashioned, construction and refurbishment ‘cold and dirty’ and male gender biased, and a lack of foresight to start apprenticeships and value skilled trades decades ago.

“That’s why when we asked members what they’d like to focus on in the next seminar, recruitment, retention and upskilling were top of the agenda. We won’t just be looking at blue sky thinking, bigger picture thinking – although that will be part of the scene setting – we’ll be talking to organisations who have got it right, and experts who can support us. We’ll be going into practical and granular detail of how to get the right people in the right jobs and keep them; looking at the most successful recruitment techniques to attract the much-needed diverse talent pool; and finding out how to muti-skill operatives so we can start to make headway on the huge retrofit programme facing the UK’s housing sector.
