The planters are managed by the village’s ‘In Bloom’ committee which was established 11 years ago as part of an environmental project led by the resident association.

The ‘In Bloom’ committee work every year to assemble planters around the neighbourhood to make Grove Village look bright and vibrant during the summer months. The residents also enjoy a friendly ‘In Bloom’ garden competition, which will be judged the first week in June.

Jane Hawthorne, Community Investment Officer for Your Housing Group, said “the residents in Grove Village are wonderfully passionate about their community and we really care about them. They work hard to support each other and create a place where people choose to live and thrive. The ‘In Bloom’ committee has grown year on year since its inception but had to be scaled back during the pandemic. This is our biggest planting project since then, and the aim is to install even more planters next year. Thank you to everyone who turned out to support. We can’t wait to see it all in bloom.”

Jim Shaw, Chair of Grove Village Residents Association added: “I would like to thank everyone who got involved with the 2023 In Bloom planting on Grove Village. The team worked extremely hard and fast, managing to put up 327 planters around the estate, which look beautiful. I personally can’t wait until they come into full bloom.

It is quite hard work putting the planters up on the lampposts, but the team from Equans made it look easy! Really well done! Plus, really well done to all of you from Your Housing Group, Grove Village Residents’ Association, and two of our Councillors too, Cllr. Tina Hewitson who helps with the planting every year and Ardwick’s newest Councillor, Cllr. Abdi Muse. Thank you all for your help in planting 2,500 plants.

A big thank you to Morgan Sindall and Your Housing Group for their financial support, as without that support, the In Bloom Project would not exist, so a big pat on the back to you both.

Once again, a big THANK YOU to you all.”

Grove Village is the UK’s first Housing PFI. Nearly 20 years on and Grove Village is a multi-award winning £100 million housing PFI scheme which has transformed this previously rundown estate into a thriving urban village that the residents are proud of.
