Developer and contractor, Watson Homes, has had plans approved to build 37 new, energy efficient homes in Longsight. All of the homes will be made available for either social rent or affordable home ownership through housing provider, Jigsaw Homes Group.

The development, located on Levenshulme Road, is tailored by Watson Homes and Jigsaw Homes to meet the demand for more affordable housing in the area. It supports Manchester City Council’s targets to deliver 1,000 affordable homes each year, an average set to equate 10,000 affordable homes, between 2022 and 2032.

TADW is engaged as the architect for the development, which includes six, two-bedroom houses, as well as a three-storey building comprising 20 one bed and 11 two bed apartments. Altogether, 14 of the homes will be for social rent with 23 available for rent to buy. The development will also benefit from 29 new off-road parking spaces and landscaped green spaces to the front and rear.

“We are pleased to have been given the go-ahead to begin work on this project, which will support Manchester City Council’s provision of much needed homes in Longsight. Working together with Jigsaw Homes allows us to help deliver a high standard of housing, that will go on to serve the community for generations to come.”

Rob Watson, director of Watson Homes

Watson Homes has a track record of delivering affordable homes across the North West and is due reach 1,000 homes this month.

Development partner, Jigsaw Homes, which owns and manages more than 35,000 homes across the North West, is one of the members of the Manchester Housing Providers Partnership (MHPP) working to deliver more affordable housing in the city.

“We are looking forward to working on this development to provide more affordable homes close to the city centre and offer choices to households in housing need. We have a pipeline of new developments across Greater Manchester and are in discussions with Homes England over grant funding to support these plans.”
