A mix of two and three bedroom houses and bungalows, 24 homes have been sold for shared ownership and the rest let at an affordable rent. The site is entirely gas-free and both owned and managed by Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA).
Energy saving measures were the foremost concern for NCHA’s in-house architects Pelham, and the homes have been independently rated EPC A. With solar panels, air-source heat pumps and high-end insulation, these homes will deliver both a low carbon footprint and help reduce energy costs for the new residents.
Ava Blackwood was the first to move into the new community. Three months on she’s settling in well and thrilled with the ‘green-technology’ in her home: “It’s so warm! I’ve never lived anywhere like it before. Where I lived before was cold, no insulation and lots of damp. This house has been a bit of a shock … but an amazing one! Having solar panels, battery storage and an air source heat pump for the heating, the house almost runs itself. I’ve just had my first energy bill. It’s less than half what I’m used to paying.”
At the opening event residents joined NCHA and representatives from Nottingham City Council for a tour of the finished scheme.
Allan Fisher, Director of Development and Assets for NCHA commented: “It’s fantastic to visit the site and see how the new occupants are already making the homes their own.
“As part of NCHA’s commitment to developing environmentally sustainable homes and communities, this gas-free site is full of green energy solutions and will offer lower energy costs for the new residents.” He went on to thank partners in the build, Mercer Building Solutions for “their work in helping us to bring our vision to reality.”
Nearly all the new homes are already occupied and a new community is beginning to take shape.
Councillor Jay Hayes, Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing, said: “It’s great to see more affordable homes being let to people in Nottingham who are in housing need – and these are especially important as their lower carbon footprint contributes towards the city’s carbon neutral ambitions, as well as reducing energy bills for residents.”
The development, costing around £8.7mn, was funded by NCHA and . The homes contribute towards NCHA’s Strategic Partnership with Homes England to deliver new, affordable homes across the East Midlands and East of England.
