The development, which secured planning permission in 2022 will consist of five three bed houses and one two bed bungalow. The site housed garages which have been demolished ready for the construction of the new homes to commence in early 2024.

The scheme will mark the second collaboration between Magenta Living and Starship in their commitment to sustainable and energy efficient housing.  In 2022 Magenta Living acquired Starship’s first Wirral development at Windsor Close, a small development in New Ferry what featured three zero carbon three bed houses.  The homes have been a huge success and Magenta is keen to increase its offer of highly energy efficient homes to customers.

Magenta Living’s Executive Director of Assets and Development, Ian Thomson, said: “I’m pleased that we are continuing our energy efficient journey by building these homes using new and innovative methods of construction which are beneficial to us as an organisation as it speeds up the construction cycle.  More importantly though, our customers benefit from new, modern, energy efficient homes built for the future which will save them money as well as being good for the environment.”

What sets these homes apart is that they are built using Starship’s innovative panellised system, a type of Modern Methods of Construction*.  The panels, which form the external walls and roof of the homes, are manufactured in Starship’s Wirral-based factory, and are then fixed together on-site in just a matter of days.  This method of construction increases delivery efficiency and precision in the construction process and ensures we deliver quality homes to our customers.  What makes this project even more sustainable is that Starship’s factory is located on Wirral, only 15 minutes away from the site and much of their workforce is employed locally.

Starship’s Construction Director, Chris Dodd, said: “We are delighted to partner again with Magenta to deliver this scheme. Adding social to the local community aligns with Starships ethos, so to be delivering zero carbon, affordable homes on Wirral, manufactured locally using local people is fantastic for all involved. Projects like this allow us to continue to expand our workforce and bring more apprentices into Modern Methods of Construction as well as continue to support our local subcontractor network.”

It is hoped that the homes will be ready to let by winter 2024.
