Zone one at Future Foundations will delve into the challenges and obstacles that could become definitive when judging the resilience of social housing providers in the future, bringing together discussions surrounding some of the most important policy elements in social housing.

Chaired by Harry Palmer, Editor of Housing Executive, zone one will host a number of discussions covering areas such as Awaab’s Law, the UK’s ageing population and the preservation of genuine social value. Focused on cultivating real debate and collaboration, each talk will be focused by a dedicated networking period, giving delegates the opportunity to continue their conversations and question our speakers in a more informal environment.

Zone One agenda:
Awaab’s Law – one year on: what providers need to know next
A panel looking back at the first 12 months of Awaab’s Law in practice, what has changed and where providers are still facing challenges. The discussion would also look ahead to the implications of Phase 2 and 3, and what organisations need to be preparing for now in terms of compliance, operations and culture. Bringing a combination of legal, technical and procurement perspectives, speakers include Paul Smith, Head of NHMF Frameworx, Chris Cottrell, Product Lead from MadeTech and Dot Pawlowksi from Trowers & Hamlins.
Future proofing social housing for an ageing Britain
A significant demographic shift has been taking place across the UK. People are living longer, more often, and the housing system needs to be prepared for oncoming change. Old age brings with it a number of additional needs and required support, and without action being taken today, the social housing sector risks being left unprepared to care for the population of tomorrow. Bringing together Sally Parsons, CEO of Alpha Living, Lauren Mckechnie, CEO of AgeUK Bolton and James Batchelor, Founder of Alertacall, discussions will centre around the preparations that are necessary today to make sure housing providers are prepared to support a growing demographic with complex needs.
Funding the future – innovation within finance
Social housing providers are finding themselves under more and more pressure in terms of resources, as rising industry standards and scrutiny compounds with external economic turbulence. The need for more social homes is paramount, but just as important is the maintenance and improvements of the UK’s current housing stock, the oldest in Europe. Panellists including Helen Whittingham, CFO of Your Housing and Toby Wilde, Founder of Oparo will discuss innovative practices within the finance department that can unlock further opportunities, and free up the resources needed to provide a high-quality service sustainably.
Beyond compliance- social purpose under pressure
The social housing sector provides much more for its residents than bricks and mortar. Social value encompasses the works done by providers that goes beyond just providing homes, but also enriching the lives of the communities they form. Whilst providers grapple with rising costs and strict compliance, how can organisations ensure that compliance is treated as the floor rather than the ceiling, going above and beyond in order to ensure social value is embedded within their homes from the ground up? With a panel of speakers including Dr Frances Harkin, Head of Delivery at HACT and John Gleeson, Head of Communities at West Kent Housing Association, this panel will delve into how providers can ensure their social value output doesn’t suffer during tikes of stretched capacity.
“We can’t wait to welcome our attendees to Bolton for Future Foundations in just under two weeks. The agenda for zone one promises to be an exciting one, with discussions covering a number of subjects relevant to the sector.”- Harry Palmer, Editor of Housing Executive
