Located on Oak Road in the town, The Shires is a £11.5mn development with 75 homes built by YHG’s build partner MCI developments. It offers a mix of shared ownership and affordable rent and attracted more than 2,500 enquiries, showing the high demand for housing in the area.
Councillor Tom Ross said: “I am so impressed with this site – it is more than housing, it is people’s homes, it is their wellbeing, true regeneration for Partington. I’m delighted at the use of affordable rent and shared ownership as well so that our borough’s residents can achieve a better standard of living. Partnerships are important when driving change, and this development is an example of what can be achieved working together. It has transformed this land.”
The Shires is in a great location in the semi-rural town; on the doorstep of the popular Redbrook Nature Trail, within walking distance of schools, parks and local amenities, and with direct bus routes into Manchester.
During the visit, Councillor Ross and the Chair of YHG Mike Gaskell met with Jessica, who purchased her home at The Shires through shared ownership.
Jessica said: “It is so close to the countryside, which is great for walking the dog, but you can also be at the Trafford Centre in 10 minutes. It really feels like home and I 100% recommend doing shared ownership to get onto the property ladder. Some of my friends are looking at doing it now that they’ve seen my house, and I’ve told them how easy it was. It was great to just be able to move in and everything was done.”
YHG is the main landlord in Partington with more than 1,300 homes in the town. Since 2019 YHG has invested over £10mn in Partington upgrading kitchens, bathrooms, windows, doors, central heating, roofing and porches. Investment in Partington will continue with more than £15mn set aside over the next four years.
Mike Gaskell, Chair of Your Housing Group said: “I love seeing the regeneration and transformation of space achieved through the housing developments. It was wonderful to meet Jessica and hear about her journey. What we do at Your Housing Group is about so much more than just housing, it is about the people and communities. Thank you to Trafford Council for their partnership and ongoing support in the area.”
