Building Trust: The Foundation of Sector-Wide Transformation

Henrik von Bahr, VP of Strategic Accounts – Plentific

My background is financial services. When you work in a bank, you are selling products that other banks also sell. The product itself is rarely the differentiator; what separates the institutions people stay with from the ones they leave is simple: whether you deliver good customer outcomes consistently, and whether you keep the customer’s interests in mind even when it costs you something in the short-term.

In banking, that is not a soft value, it is a competitive advantage. Customers can move their business elsewhere in a day, but what keeps them is the genuine belief that you are acting in their best interest. People choose you because they trust you. That lesson has stayed with me throughout my career and sits at the heart of everything we do at Plentific.

I believe we have a product that can genuinely help our customers, but a strong product is only ever half the story. Real trust with the partners we work with has to be earned the same way: by being aligned on what good looks like, and proving it, again and again. Trust is not a given. It’s earned, maintained and deepened through consistent action and genuine collaboration, and it can be lost the moment you stop paying attention to the outcome the customer actually needed.

Developing A Sector-Defining Platform

Plentific’s platform has evolved because we’ve listened closely to what the sector actually needs.

Value for Money matters to our partners, so we built the platform with them, not for them, and that collaboration hasn’t stopped. Take Portus; they started using our platform for contractor management and quickly realised significant value. That initial success built trust, and Portus expanded into our DLO and compliance modules. We listened to what they needed, built it, and kept improving.

With Home Group, we took a similar path. We listened and trusted their expertise to map out the way forward. Over the last two years working closely with a team that believed in us and trusted our direction, we have built real confidence together.

Trust Beyond the Boardroom

Trust is important not just with housing providers, but also with their customers. Working with DLOs, dynamic scheduling drives real efficiency. Our technology platform now connects all suppliers in the chain, creating transparency and accountability at every level.

We understand what a housing provider is working towards, and we help them get there on their own terms: shaping their own asset management strategy, not fitting into ours. That’s the partner they trust us to be.

Data, AI and the Future of Trust

Data is what lets us help customers organise their operations and stay aligned with their goals. Better outcomes today are what earn us the right to bring AI agents into that relationship tomorrow. Technology is not replacing trust; it is amplifying it.

A Mindset Shift

Our Open Framework applies that same principle to how technology can shape conversations across the sector: building trust rather than eroding it. It gives customers the most flexible way to source services, strengthens relationships between housing providers and contractors, and fills the gaps traditional models leave behind. Alongside this, we’re adding social value into local communities, investing in apprenticeships and making sure the benefits of technology reach beyond the balance sheet.

When We Get It Wrong

No genuine, long-term partnership built on trust survives by pretending that everything always goes right. In life, it’s a strength to sometimes hold our hands up and admit we could have done things better. Our continuous improvement mindset isn’t a slogan, it’s the same discipline I learned in financial services, where an unresolved complaint or a piece of feedback that goes ignored doesn’t just cost you one customer, it costs you the trust of everyone who hears about it. We treat feedback as an input into a better platform and a stronger relationship, provided we’re honest enough to actually use it that way.

A Decade-Long Journey

Technology is the focal point, but it’s the human relationships that make it mean something. A decade in, the platform, the trust and the familiarity our teams have built with the sector are finally coming together.

Trust takes time. Plentific has been building it for more than a decade. We’ve grown from a niche player to a core platform for the sector, and we’re not done. The platform is cloud-based, built by the sector for the sector.

Everyone benefits when everyone’s involved: sharing expertise, helping drive the sector forward together. We listen, we challenge, and we build the platform the sector actually needs. If we fall short, we acknowledge it and we fix it. That doesn’t stop. We’re an enterprise platform for the sector, and an operational layer for housing providers. We’ve changed alongside our customers, been honest about risk, and built the trust that’s grown this connected, real-time ecosystem.

More than 100 customers trust us today, including two-thirds of London’s G15 housing providers, and thousands of service providers alongside them. Together, we’re enhancing the lives of more than three million residents worldwide. That level of trust is what sets us apart.
