Housing Executive Awards 2026 – What Does a Winning Decarbonisation Approach Look Like?

With the 2026 Housing Executive Awards getting ever closer, we’re running through exactly what the judges will be keeping an eye out for in each category. The deadline for submissions is 30th June, and you can find all awards criteria and nomination forms on our website.

Housing is central to the UK’s net-zero ambitions. With residential properties accounting for a significant share of national carbon emissions, the social housing sector has a major role to play in driving down the country’s environmental footprint. The Best Decarbonisation Approach category recognises the projects and organisations that are leading the way with innovation, efficiency and measurable resident benefit in their approach to cutting carbon.

Nominations for Best Decarbonisation Approach should show evidence of:

  • Positive measurements and data such as EPC ratings improved by the decarbonisation efforts
  • Efficient and effective process, including completing work on schedule and within budget
  • Positive resident engagement, with residents fully aware of the benefits of the decarbonisation process
  • Innovative methods utilising efficient technology and practices

Last year, it was FLS who took home the award for their VISITOUR scheduling solution, which helped housing providers including Your Housing Group achieve up to a 32% increase in operative productivity through real-time route optimisation, cutting unnecessary visits and reducing carbon emissions in the process. Highly Commended went to Morgan Sindall Property Services, whose retrofit programme with Amplius targeted 581 hard-to-treat homes across five regions, installing 2,430 energy measures and saving residents £669 annually on energy bills.

The judges this year will be looking for another approach that demonstrates what meaningful progress on decarbonisation looks like in practice. If you know of a project that has made measurable headway on net-zero targets, head to our website and nominate before the 30th June deadline.
