Hello everyone,

I’m Hony Premlal, one of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Vice Presidential candidates. Last year, I ran as a candidate, and this year, I decided to try again. Why? Because I believe it’s crucial to continue pursuing my dreams and serve as an inspiration for women like myself.

In 1993, I arrived in the UK from a small village in India, barely able to speak English. Through intense hard work, resilience, and focus, I climbed the ranks from a front-line worker to a Managing Director and Chair within the social housing sector over nearly three decades.

As a social housing consultant, mentor, and coach, I currently dedicate myself to helping organisations and individuals overcome challenges. Additionally, I serve as Chair of Eldon Housing Association and Women in Social Housing (WISH) London.

My journey has been one of continuous learning and professional development. Now, I aim to bring this spirit of growth and perseverance to the Chartered Institute of Housing. If elected, I will collaborate with staff, media, and other stakeholders to ensure the CIH actively influences the national agenda. Through my presidential campaign, I aim to accomplish the following goals:

  1. **Raise the Profile of Social Housing**: Influence policymakers to prioritize social housing on both national and local agendas.
  2. **Increase Diversity**: Advocate for greater diversity in board and senior leadership positions.
  3. **Promote Housing Careers**: Highlight housing as a desirable career path for young people.
  4. **Enhance CIH Visibility**: Boost the profile of CIH, increase membership uptake, and promote professional standards.

Social housing is not just a sector; it is a vital part of our communities. It shapes lives, provides stability, and fosters growth. I am committed to raising its profile and ensuring it receives the attention it deserves from policymakers.

Diversity is another cornerstone of my campaign. I believe that our boards and senior leadership teams should reflect the rich diversity of our society. By championing this cause, we can bring in a variety of perspectives, which is crucial for innovative and effective decision-making.

Moreover, we must present housing as an attractive career option for the next generation. By showcasing the impact and opportunities within this sector, we can inspire young people to join and contribute to this vital field.

Finally, I am dedicated to raising the profile of CIH. Increased visibility and membership will empower the organisation to set and uphold the highest professional standards, ensuring excellence in housing industry.

Please vote for me to raise the profile of the social housing sector and demonstrate that with determination, hard work, and authenticity, anything is possible.

Thank you for your support
